Diamond State Classic Continues Tradition of Excellence in 2007 December 31, 2007 by Jim Charles & Tom Dunn The Diamond State Classic is such a large event that it defies anyone to cover it comprehensively. Twenty-eight games in four days. That's equal to one team's entire season - including playoffs. The News Journal does a decent job covering the "marquee" games and providing box scores. WDEL Radio broadcasts certain feature games during the tournament. This website, however, is basically a two-person operation. And this isn't what either of us does for a living (unlike the News Journal & WDEL). In fact, our day jobs keep us from seeing every minute of the Classic, even though, by creative use of vacation time, we were able to be present for most of the games.
That preamble aside, this site is - first and foremost - about promoting Delaware teams and players. Since the Classic brings in many out-of-state teams, we have decided to keep our focus on the Delawareans participating. (No offense whatsoever intended to the out-of-state teams, players, coaches or parents.)
Writing full stories on each game would take too long to post, be a bear to organize, and just generally be beyond the scope or ability of this website. So, we've decided, in the meantime, to let our exclusive DelawareGirlsBasketball.com pictures do most of the talking. We hope you not only enjoy the photos but also forgive our brevity with words on this occasion.

One of the very best out-of-state players, Tyler Hale, from Towson Catholic High School in Maryland.
Christiana High's Jasmine Carter tries a three-pointer in the tournament's opening game against Towson Catholic.
Christiana's Nyischa Corbett goes to great lengths to challenge the Towson Catholic shot.
Freshman guard for Towson, Brittany Lanahan, waits in the blocks for an opportunity to rebound a missed free-throw.
Even in such a highly competitive, intense atmosphere as the Diamond State Classic, Christiana freshman, Cari Calloway's smile shows how much fun sports can be.
The multi-sport leader of Tower Hill, senior, Caitlyn Van Sickle.
Tower Hill's Mary Hobbs concentrates on her defense.
Hobbs is also a very good outside shooter as this image clearly shows.
Caitlin Van Sickle bringing it up on the Damascus High defense. In the background, Joanna Kelly prepares a pick.
The amazing Chelsea Davis for Middletown drives up and over Karona Roach (#14) and Brady Rollins (#5) of Caravel.
Caravel's Ellee Rollins (#3) pushes her body to the limit to challenge Mary Beth Scholz' three-point attempt while Ellee's sister Brady fights for position with Chelsea Davis.
Two of the State's finest guards, Caravel's Dara Taylor (left) faces Middletown's Morgan Taylor. As both girls are juniors, we will be treated to their talents through the Spring of 2009!
*** The purpose of this page, like the rest of this site, is to promote girls basketball in the State of Delaware. This is hard to do if individual players cannot be singled out. However, I will honor all requests by players or parents to remove their/their daughters' names and/or images from this review. I will also gladly correct any misspelled names, or add names where now I list only a player uniform number. Just email me. *** DelGirlsHoops@aol.comJim Charles |
