Cape Henlopen Beats Wilmington Christian in Best Team Win of the Year 48 - 21 February 9, 2008 by Jim Charles & Tom Dunn
Ten of eleven Cape Henlopen players scored in the game. Two girls - Cierra Seth and Taylor Harris - had 8 each to lead the team. Rayona Benson had 7. Johnesha Warren & Regina Netzer had 6 each. Savonne Seth and Meg Bartley had 4 each. ...Which underscores two things: Talent that goes a long way down the bench and a willingness on the team to share the glory - and the baskets. In all the games DGB.com has covered this season, no other featured such democracy and teamwork.
Cape was equally at home converting turnovers into fastbreak plays or running more conventional offensive sets. While they may not show the lightning quickness of a St. Elizabeth's or have a dominating player like Ursuline, the Lady Capesters do what they do well. It's the kind of disciplined, fundamental ball that you see in teams like St. Mark's, but with perhaps a greater degree of athleticism.
For Wilmington Christian, they just couldn't get anything going. One player, Ashley Connell, was not deterred, though, pumping in a cool dozen in the losing effort. The only other player with more than a single basket was Connell's twin sister, Chelsea, who contributed 4 points to the affair.

*** The purpose of this page, like the rest of this site, is to promote girls basketball in the State of Delaware. This is hard to do if individual players cannot be singled out. However, I will honor all requests by players or parents to remove their/their daughters' names and/or images from this review. I will also gladly correct any misspelled names, or add names where now I list only a player uniform number. Just email me. *** DelGirlsHoops@aol.comJim Charles |
