Delaware Lady Sharpshooters, 11U

April 15, 2008

by Jim Charles

I got to see the Lady Sharpshooters in just one game - their Saturday contest against the Wilmington Tigers.  This is a team I hope to see more of.  I apologize in advance for the very brief coverage of this team, but I hope to make it up to them in the coming months -- their schedule and mine allowing.

It's nearly impossible to understand the talent on a team from seeing them in just one game, but with that disclaimer out of the way, let me say I was very impressed with three girls in particular:  Kadesha Dix, Olivia Gumbs and Brittany McLean.  Dix reminds me of Dominique Overton, a diminutive, but extremely talented and acrobatic point guard out of William Penn, if memory serves correctly.  Gumbs looks like the next Jasmine Gibson (Sanford's stellar forward).  And McLean looks like she'd be a perfect fit for Middletown High's varsity.  I have to keep telling myself that these girls are only eleven years old!!!

Olivia Gumbs brings on the defense against Megan Doogan of the Tigers.

Kadesha Dix at the charity stripe.  What a talented point guard!  She had 9 of her team's 15 points in this game.  Brittany McLean stands in the background.

One good point guard deserves another.  Kadesha Dix advances the ball under pressure from Tiger Erin Joyce.
