Consolation Bracket Action
JV Division
St. Mary's defeats IHM
Tom and Jim both found the resemblance of IHM's Emilie Hager to Caravel's Brady Rollins (Class of 2008) uncanny. After you factor in the age difference, they could easily be mistaken for sisters, if not twins!
There's a real story going on these days in 5th/6th grade ball and her name is Adrianna Hahn. We reported on her earlier in the year. She is simply amazing! A complete package player. Plays well beyond her years. We don't know how things work at IHM, but we don't understand why she is not playing on the IHM varsity (7th/8th grade) team. Sixth graders are allowed to "play up" (per CYM). At the level she is at, few teams offer her a real challenge. In this game, we did not check the scorebook, but feel she had around 15 points. In this photo, she is defending.
Hahn with the ball making her way through traffic underneath the basket.
Even though her team was already eliminated from finals contention earlier in the tournament, as the final seconds ticked away of this one, the disappointment of the loss is clearly seen on her face. A true competitor with a will to win and talent to spare. If she stays in Delaware, you will be hearing more -- a lot more -- about her in future years.
Semi-Final Round Action
Varsity Division
St. John the Beloved defeats St. Elizabeth's, 52 - 36
No, she is not a point guard, but St. John's Kathleen Moore (#15) will do whatever she is called upon to do in order to help her team.
Liz Bates is good! This player grew on us quickly during the tournament. Aggressive, smart, and blessed with a very nice shooting touch, Bates is always in the thick of things. In this game, she cobbled together 11 points.
St. E's Macy Robinson. She had 7 points on the night.
Courtney Allin lets it fly while Paige Lacek defends.
Another look at Allin in a more relaxed moment.
So much for the concept of "clear path to the basket." St. John's Danielle Grimes sets up a roadblock to St. E's guard, Anna DiBonaventura. DiBonaventura would throw down a cool dozen before the night was out, leading her team's effort.
Macy Robinson launches a long one..
A group action shot. St. John's players: Kathleen Moore (#15), Hailey Lawler (#12) and Jenna Wolff (#14). Not sure who the St. E's shooter is, but we'll go with DiBonaventura unless we hear different.
