Junior, Emily Darling, meets strong resistance in the person of Mary Kate Williams.

A decade or so ago, there was no Saint Thomas More Preparatory School.  And, it took awhile after the school's opening to assemble a girls varsity basketball program.  As such, they've only been up and running for a relatively short time.  Seems unfair to throw them at the single most storied program in the State, but that's what happened Thursday night.  For their part, Ursuline is in the midst of a can-do-no-wrong jag.  Everything is clicking at the corner of Franklin Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.

One day, the Ravens will be able to go toe-to-toe with the Raiders, but not now.  Then again, St. Thomas More is in good company, as most in-State teams today would find it hard to beat the Ursulinians.  Ursuline is bringing their deep, deep talent to bear on all opponents and the transition to 1st year Head Coach, John Noonan, seems to be complete now, in both letter and spirit.  Both coach and players trust each other and have an all-encompassing faith that is reciprocated.

In the Ravens/Raiders matchup, it was simply a case of a good, upstart Raven lineup versus a seasoned, multi-dimensional Raider roster that is really beginning to assert itself with the likes of the very best in Delaware at the moment.  Sadly for St. Thomas More, the dye was cast!  Be that is it may, you need to know who these student-athletes are who hail from Magnolia, Delaware, and we're going to bring you a few of them in pictures.

Guard, Emily Darling (4 points) is a fine talent who plays with heart and grit every possession.

Nice defensive stance displayed by junior, Kaitlin LeBlanc.  With her eyes on the ball, she's ready to deflect a pass, spring up and contest a shot, or step-slide laterally if need be.

And here's LeBlanc on offense.

St. Thomas More triumvirate, sophomore, Liz Freud, Emily Darling and Kaitlin LeBlanc.

Christine Petrosky (2 points) is the only freshman starter for the Ravens.

Liz Freud handles frontcourt duties for the Purple and Black.

Another view of Freud.  She led the Ravens with 5 points.

***  The purpose of this page, like the rest of this site, is to promote girls basketball in the State of Delaware.  This is hard to do if individual players cannot be singled out.  However, I will honor all requests by players or parents to remove their/their daughters' names and/or images from this review.  I will also gladly correct any misspelled names, or add names where now I list only a player uniform number.  Just email me. ***
