Ursuline 45, St. Mark's 23

The Raiders Juggernaut Keeps Rolling On

I've seen St. Mark's lose before.  I've even seen them lose at home.  Yet, I've never seen them humiliated until last night.  With 2:02 to go in the 3rd quarter, Ursuline was up 40 - 12.  Kara Gallagher had 10 points, but no other Spartan scored more than one shot from the floor.  Was UA's defense THAT good or was St. Mark's offense THAT bad?  A bit of both?  Yes.  Nichols is gone.  Yes.  Schweizer's hand was was in some sort of splint.  But St. Mark's at 75% still beats most teams at 100%.  The fair thing to do, though, is to look less for blame and more for credit.  Which leads us to back to Ursuline.  Who in Delaware can stop them?  The answer so far: Nobody.  The two Delaware teams that came the closest, Padua and Appo, both fell to UA by 15 points each.  The remainder of Ursuline's schedule has them playing Padua, Caravel, St. E's, St. Mark's again, and Sanford.  Will Padua be able to apply what they learned last time to come up with a winning plan?  Will Caravel's steady confidence find a way to prevail?  Will Sanford's experience in post season and big games provide enough of an edge?  Or will the Ursulinians simply run the table and be done with it?

Thank You!

Above is a report from DiscountASP.net, the hosting service for DGB.com.  It shows monthly traffic details for DGB from last February through this January.  The numbers under the column, "Visits" is a count of every time someone brought up the DGB homepage during that particular month.  If the same person loaded the page 20 times in a month, then that counts as 20 "visits."  "Unique Visitors" is a count of how many different people visited the site in each month.  The most any one person in that column could be represented on this chart is 12 times -- once each month.  "New Visitors" is a little misleading.  It means the people who did not visit the site the prior month.  "Return Visitors" are people who did visit the site the prior month and are back again.  "Return" and "New" visitors, when added together, bring you the total "Unique Visitors."  Got it?  There'll be a quiz on Friday!

Anyway, you can see that we have lots of people checking out the site every month of the year.  Even during the slowest month of the year for "Unique Visitors" (July), the site averages 78.7 individuals dropping in each day.  Of course, the real "meat and potatoes" time of the year for the website is December through March as people follow along the high school season.

Thanks to everyone who enjoys the site.  Thanks, too, to those who've contributed articles and photos to the site.  You have helped to enhance the DGB.com experience for the site's visitors.  Most importantly, thanks to the student-athletes that make this whole thing possible.  Like I've said before, without you, there is no DGB.com!

This past Sunday, we journeyed up to Radnor, PA to Archbishop Carroll for a college showcase event called the Super Sunday Showcase.  It's put on by Blue Chip Basketball, an organization involved in all manner of girls hoops, from AAU ball to winter scholastic exposure events.

The event was fantastic.  A great day of top-of-the-line girls hoops.  Sadly, the only Delaware people we saw at the event were there on business - namely, Erin Mills and Jessica Bogia.  Erin was a 1999 State Champion for Padua Academy.  Jess played her high school years at UA and Caravel.  Today, both women are coaching college ball.

Anyway, let's get to the pics....

Archbishop Ryan 48, Episcopal Academy 45

Right away, first game, Episcopal's Megan Quinn scored her 1,000th point!

It was a family affair, as you can see.

Springside School 47, Penn Charter 40

A dangerous type of foul with fingers very close to the eyes.  The Penn Charter player was unharmed, luckily.

Springside's Michelle Boggs takes it in hard.

Charter defenders are Dianna Thomas-Palmer and Danielle Sienko.

Villa Maria (Erie) 56, Notre Dame de Namur 41

Adrienne Kloecker lets it fly.

Nikki Callahan was a defensive specialist for Notre Dame.

Handling to offensive end was Kathleen Fitzpatrick.

Bishop McNamara 62, Germantown Academy 55 (OT)

Left to right, McNamara's Dionna Joynes and Germantown's Kiernan McCloskey.

Joynes with a baseline jumper.

Archbishop Wood 46, Christ the King 34

Wood's Jackie Pierson

Christ the King's Sierra Calhoun was among the most gifted athletes in the showcase.  And she's only a sophomore!  She's 6' 1" with blazing speed and body control.

Here's a time sequence of one of her drives to the hoop.

Archbishop Carroll 64, St. John Vianney 47

Carroll's Kristie Costantino drives it in.

Kristie Costantino again

St. John Vianney's Jill Brunori was the second girl to score her 1,000th point on the day!

She gets a hug from her coach.

Prep Charter 55, Cardinal O'Hara 51

Bombs away for O'Hara's Mackenzie Rule.

Left to right, Prep Charter's Ciera Nimmons and O'Hara's Alyssa Monaghan.
