How'd She iPOW? Scored 20 points in upset
win over Caravel Academy (game played Feb. 15, 2008). Was a
perfect 12-for-12 from the free-throw line. She accounted for
41% of Padua's entire offensive output! Expert at drawing
fouls and a master at making her free-throws. Well-rounded
player with a head for the game. Is perfectly at home in the
high traffic areas underneath - at either end of the court - or out
on the perimeter to nail down long-range shots. After her
playing days are over, Katie wants to stay involved in sports in
some capacity.

How'd She iPOW? Showed leadership, coolness,
intelligence and a wide variety of skills in a 48 - 21 win over
Wilmington Christian (game played Feb. 9, 2008). Although she
technically plays the frontcourt, she nevertheless plays as if the
entire floor is hers. A great nose for the ball and possessed
with an even better idea of what to do with it, Seth set the tone
for her teammates. Although she "only" scored 8 points in the
game, it was enough to lead the team (along with Taylor Harris).

much toward Archmere nailing down a crucial late season win over a
conference leader.

victory over St. Anthony of Padua in the Championship Game of the
annual Tiger Tournament at Founier Hall. (Game played January
25, 2008.) Only player in double-digits, for either team!
If this is how she competes in 7th grade, heaven help her
opponents as she gets older!

(Game played Jan. 17, 2008.) Watching her play, you can't
believe she's just 5' 6". Equally at home under the basket in
traffic or out on the arc - she had 2 three-pointers - she certainly
is a "Joy" to watch! Combines all the best elements of the
sport. Scores when her team needs her to, but a
brilliant passer as well. GO SEE THIS GIRL PLAY!

DGB sees her on the court.

December 18, 2007
In this day and age, we have iPods, iPhones, and
probably lots of other "iThings" that an oldster like me doesn't even
know about. So, with this as partial inspiration, I've decided to
launch the Delaware Girls Basketball iPOW Award. Just what does
iPOW stand for, you might ask? Quite simply,
Impact Player of the Week.
The award will manifest itself in two ways. To the recipient, a
t-shirt will be given in recognition of the achievement. And, so
that her accomplishment is more permanently and more widely recorded,
her picture will appear here along with why she was chosen and any
supporting game data.
The mission of this website since its inception in
late summer of 2006 has always been to promote girls basketball in the
State of Delaware. Recognizing individual players based on
extraordinary or meritorious play only serves to achieve this mission.
Winning Criteria
1. Only players that appear
in games covered by DelawareGirlsBasketball.com are eligible.
This will average about one game per week (in-season), though some
weeks will feature 2 (or more) and other weeks none. DGB.com
will make every effort to cover a variety of schools and conferences
so that iPOW winners will come from all over. DGB.com is not
associated with any particular school or group of schools.
DGB.com is not a recruiting service, nor does it engage in
recruiting activity.
2. While primarily a high
school award, if DGB.com is covering a non-high school girls game
(such as CYM, public junior high, AAU, etc.), those players are all
eligible for the award.
3. DGB.com reserves the
right to withhold an iPOW Award after games where it is determined
that no one earned it.
4. DGB.com reserves the
right to award multiple iPOW awards for a single game.
(...Meaning 2 or more girls can win from one game, although this
would be very rare.)
5. iPOW winners do not
necessarily have to be on the winning team.
6. iPOW winners are not
asked to or required to do any service for DGB.com in return.
7. No other "prize",
material or monetary gain is extended from DGB.com to the iPOW
winners.
8. Any player offered the
award who requests not to be mentioned on the DGB.com website will
have the award revoked. (In other words, if you don't want
your name associated with the award, then you don't want the award
very much.)
9. DGB.com reserves any and
all other rights not specifically detailed on this page in
connection with this award.
NB: On May 7, 2008, in phone
conversation with Marie Dillon at NCAA Headquarters, it was verbally
agreed that the iPOW award is "NCAA-legal" (my quotes, not hers).
The gist of the NCAA's concerns being that the award does not
consist of any money changing hands and that the website has no ties
to any particular school's booster club or athletic department.
The NCAA also requires that DGB.com not be a recruiting service.
(We are not a recruiting service.) Other than those ground
rules, which DGB.com has been in FULL COMPLIANCE WITH, our iPOW
Award is acceptable to the NCAA and will not jeopardize any
recipient with possible/potential NCAA sanctions.
The following is taken verbatim
from an email dated May 14, 2008 from Marie Dillon of the NCAA:
Dear Mr. Charles,
This
email is to follow-up from the conversation we had last week
regarding your website. Per our conversation, your
questions were regarding providing prospective student
athletes (PSA) with a t-shirt and picture on a website with
the PSA’s qualifications and achievements. Per our
legislation, providing the PSA’s with a t-shirt, a picture
and information on your website would be permitted provided
several criteria is met. The award would need to be
uniform for all athletes, the criteria for winning the
award would need to be the same for all athletes, the award
does not include cash, it is not being provided by a
booster of an institution, and no recruiting is involved.
Sincerely,
Marie Dillon
