Co-Impact Player of the Weekend - May 31 & June 1

Courtney Wallace - Wilmington Tigers 10U

Height:  4' 5"          Current Class:  5th Grade        School: Ursuline Academy

Potential High School:  Ursuline Academy

Positions Played:  Point Guard

Other Interests:  Dancing, Volleyball, Soccer

Biggest Basketball Influence:  Elena Delle Donne

How'd she iPOW?  Courtney makes history as being both our youngest and least tall iPOW winner to date.  But don't let that fool you.  She is simply everything you could ask for in a point guard.  She is a tornado of energy on the floor.  In flat-out footspeed, few are better.  She may even be faster with the ball.  At just 4' 5" tall, can she score?  Try this on for size:  26 points on the weekend; scored in all four games; had two 10-point games!  She plays with a court sense and intelligence beyond her years.  Throws perfect lead passes to cutters.  Get this - she even uses push-offs with opponents to get open!  That's a college move!  She is demanding of herself.  When she misses a shot, she yells at herself.  A real competitor with the heart of a lion.  More than her own skills, she makes the whole team better.  When she's on the court, her teammates step it up to try and match her pace.  With Courtney setting the tone at point, her team had a perfect 4 - 0 weekend.  You will be hearing a lot more of this exciting player in the future.

Co-Impact Player of the Weekend - May 31 & June 1

Julianne Lambert - Delaware PAL Wildcats 13U

Height:  5' 7"      Current Class:  8th Grade / Will be attending Padua this fall.

Positions Played:  All Five

Biggest Basketball Influence:  Elena Delle Donne

How'd she iPOW?  Scored team high 16 points in game vs. Allentown Attack (June 1, 2008) for her Delaware PAL Wildcat 13U team.  Had an overall great tournament.  Julianne plays smart, heads-up ball and is an asset to her team anywhere on the floor and at either end of the court.  Her smooth playing style and easygoing, coachable personality will make her a welcome addition to the program at Padua Academy.

May 5, 2008

Co-Impact Player of the Weekend - May 2, 3, & 4, 2008

Alyssa Cuomo - Delaware PAL Wildcats 14U

Height:  5' 8"          Current Class:  Freshman        School: Hodgson Vo-Tech

Years on Varsity:  1

Potential College(s):  West Chester University / University of Delaware

Positions Played:  C, Shooting Guard, Shooting/Small Forward

Other Interests:  Volleyball, Music, Friends

Biggest Basketball Influence:  Paige Davis (AAU teammate)

How'd she iPOW?  Ask any coach the one thing that separates a great player from a good player and they'll tell you "consistency."  Players that can be counted on game after game to come up big are the ones that NCAA Division I programs want to sign.  In perhaps the toughest pool play bracket at the 14U Regionals, Alyssa scored 16 against the Wilmington Tigers, 18 against the Delmont Blaze, and 15 against the West Chester Sparks -- leading her team in scoring all three games.  Her 49 points in the three pool play games (16.3 PPG) represent 23% of her team's total points.  Her physical presence in the key, her rebounding, her ability to set great picks anywhere on the court, her passing and ball handling are all as consistent as her scoring.  And on top of all this, she never seeks the spotlight, never looks for attention.  She just goes out and plays basketball.

May 5, 2008

Co-Impact Player of the Weekend - May 2, 3, & 4, 2008

Marianna Gallo - Wilmington Tigers 14U

Height:  5' 8"          Current Class:  Sophomore        School: Unionville High School

Years on Varsity:  2              Potential College:  University of South Carolina

Positions Played:  1, 2, 3 & 4

Other Interests:  Music, Eating, Dancing

Biggest Basketball Influence:  John Kulesza (Her AAU Coach)

How'd she iPOW?  Marianna had the biggest single game of any player on a Delaware team in pool play.  Her 23 points (40.4% of her team's total points) scored in a losing effort to the Delaware PAL Wildcats is her personal best in any basketball game, ever.  She also had 9 against the West Chester Sparks and 5 against the Delmont Blaze.  That's 37 for the tournament / 12.3 points per game.  Marianna makes DGB.com history by being our first iPOW winner from a losing side and by being our first winner from out-of-state.  Even though she lives in PA, she plays for a Delaware team, so that's all that matters!

April 3, 2008

Impact Player of the Weekend - March 29/30, 2008

Alison Zimny - Wilmington Tigers 14U

Height:  5' 9"                         Current Class:  Freshman                School: St. Mark's

Biggest Basketball Influence:  Erlana Larkins (UNC)

How'd She iPOW?  Was driving force in Wilmington Tigers undefeated (4 - 0) tournament at Rowan University (games played 3/29 & 3/30/2008).  Averaged 11.8 ppg (47 points total), including 17-point performance against Lower Delco Wildcats.  Great defender, rebounder, passer and ball handler.  Good speed for her height.  Full skill set for forward or guard.  Will fight for the ball on the floor with opponents as the situation warrants.  As her AAU coach, John Kulesza says, "She is an awesome young lady that works very hard year-round. This will be the first of many deserving awards that she will receive during her career."  Our first-ever iPOW winner from AAU ball.

Impact Player of the Week - Week Ending March 8, 2008

Elena Delle Donne - Ursuline Academy

Positions Played:  F/C/G      Team Captain

Other Interests:  ?

Biggest Basketball Influence:  ?

College:  UConn

How'd She iPOW?  How didn't she iPOW!?!?  She had a great run in the State Tournament in 2008.  29 points against Cape Henlopen.  32 against Brandywine.  29 against Sanford in the Semis.  An even 20 in the Finals against St. Elizabeth's.  110 points in four games.  A 27.5 PPG average.  And keep in mind, this is all versus tough competition.  She'd win the iPOW on points alone, but Delle Donne brings the complete game.  In the Brandywine "Elite Eight" game, she led her team in scoring, rebounds (9), and co-led in assists (3).  And those numbers are typical.  Delle Donne finishes her career with a State record 2,818 points.  We're proud to honor Elena Delle Donne with our humble, yet sincere award for what was her last week of high school basketball.

Co-Impact Player of the Week - Week Ending March 1, 2008

Lindsey Nichols - IHM C Team (CYM)

Height:  5' 5"                        Current Class:  8th Grade              Years Varsity: 2

Positions Played:  Guard / Forward

Other Interests:  Volleyball, hanging out & shopping

Biggest Basketball Influence:  Her sister, Stephanie (senior, St. Mark's HS)

How'd She iPOW?  The IHM Spartans needed someone to have a big day if they were going to prevail over Ursuline in the CYM C Division Final.  (Game played Feb. 24, 2008.)  Nichols answered the call with 19-point afternoon -- 46% of the IHM total!  She was an equally huge factor on the defensive end, coming up with pressure stops, breaking up plays, and generally being a nuisance to the UA Lady Raiders.  Lindsey plans to follow her older sister to St. Mark's.

February 24, 2008

Impact Player of the Week - Week Ending February 23, 2008

Andrea Hines - St. Elizabeth High School (JV)

Height:  5' 5"                        Current Class:  Freshman

Positions Played:  Point Guard / Shooting Guard

Other Interests:  Track & Soccer

Biggest Basketball Influence:  Her brother, Paris Hines

How'd She iPOW?  Hines was THE standout talent of the 2008 Catholic Conference end-of-season Junior Varsity Tournament.  Only a freshman, this multi-skilled guard was all over the court leading the Lady Vikings to the Tournament Title.  She knocked down 16 points over the course of the tournament -- 6 points in Game 1 (Feb. 21, 2008) and 10 points in the Tournament Final (Feb. 23, 2008).  Word has it that Hines will suit for varsity in the upcoming State Tournament.  Based on what she showed DGB.com, we only wonder why she wasn't on varsity already!

Winning Criteria

1.  Only players that appear in games covered by DelawareGirlsBasketball.com are eligible.  This will average about one game per week (in-season), though some weeks will feature 2 (or more) and other weeks none.  DGB.com will make every effort to cover a variety of schools and conferences so that iPOW winners will come from all over.  DGB.com is not associated with any particular school or group of schools.  DGB.com is not a recruiting service, nor does it engage in recruiting activity.

2.  While primarily a high school award, if DGB.com is covering a non-high school girls game (such as CYM, public junior high, AAU, etc.), those players are all eligible for the award.

3.  DGB.com reserves the right to withhold an iPOW Award after games where it is determined that no one earned it.

4.  DGB.com reserves the right to award multiple iPOW awards for a single game.  (...Meaning 2 or more girls can win from one game, although this would be very rare.)

5.  iPOW winners do not necessarily have to be on the winning team.

6.  iPOW winners are not asked to or required to do any service for DGB.com in return.

7.  No other "prize", material or monetary gain is extended from DGB.com to the iPOW winners.

8.  Any player offered the award who requests not to be mentioned on the DGB.com website will have the award revoked.  (In other words, if you don't want your name associated with the award, then you don't want the award very much.)

9.  DGB.com reserves any and all other rights not specifically detailed on this page in connection with this award.

NB:  On May 7, 2008, in phone conversation with Marie Dillon at NCAA Headquarters, it was verbally agreed that the iPOW award is "NCAA-legal" (my quotes, not hers).  The gist of the NCAA's concerns being that the award does not consist of any money changing hands and that the website has no ties to any particular school's booster club or athletic department.  The NCAA also requires that DGB.com not be a recruiting service.  (We are not a recruiting service.)

Other than those ground rules, which DGB.com has been in FULL COMPLIANCE WITH, our iPOW Award is acceptable to the NCAA, according to Ms. Dillon, and will not jeopardize any recipient with possible/potential NCAA sanctions.

The following is taken verbatim from an email dated May 14, 2008 from Marie Dillon of the NCAA:

Dear Mr. Charles,

This email is to follow-up from the conversation we had last week regarding your website.  Per our conversation, your questions were regarding providing prospective student athletes (PSA) with a t-shirt and picture on a website with the PSA’s qualifications and achievements.    Per our legislation, providing the PSA’s with a t-shirt, a picture and information on your website would be permitted  provided several criteria is met.  The award would need to be  uniform for all athletes, the criteria for winning the award would need to be the same for all athletes,  the award does not include cash,  it is not being provided by a booster of an institution,  and no recruiting is involved.

Sincerely,

Marie Dillon
