How 'bout a little 3-on-3 game with these girls?

August 1, 2008

Co-Impact Player of the Week - Week Ending August 2

Aimée Bouie - A.I. DuPont High School

Height:  6' 2"          Current Class:  Junior for '08/'09

Positions Played:  Center & Forward            Years Varsity: '08/'09 will be 3rd

Other Interests:  Making clothes/Fashion Design

Biggest Basketball Influence:  Candace Parker

Probable College(s):  Drexel, Cornell, Philadelphia University

How'd she iPOW?  Scored 10 points in Consolation Bracket Finals (only player, either team, in double-digits) against St. George's.  Played solid center and low post position all summer for A.I.  A legitimate 6-foot plus.  Can get you the putback when you need it.  Blocks shots like nobody's business.  BIG wingspan.  That means reach for all you unfamiliar with the lingo.  And she's only a junior, folks!  First name pronounced "ah-MAY", as she is quick to point out to anyone calling her "AY-mee."

Co-Impact Player of the Week - Week Ending August 2

Kristen Marbury - Padua Academy

Height:  5' 4"          Current Class:  Junior for '08/'09

Positions Played:  Point Guard            Years Varsity: '08/'09 will be 2nd

Other Interests:  Track

Biggest Basketball Influence:  Her dad

Probable College(s):  St. Joe's

How'd she iPOW?  After Padua starting point guard, Kelly Johnson, went down with a knee injury in the quarter-finals, Marbury got the nod to lead her team going into the semi-finals (Final Four) vs. Glasgow.  Although the Pandas eventually lost the game, Marbury's performance was beyond outstanding.  Coming into a difficult, pressure-filled situation, she responded with 16 points (high scorer for the game, either side):  5 field goals; 1 three-point shot; and 3-for-4 from the charity stripe.  Next best player for Padua had half as many points as Kristen.  In sophomore year, did split duty at JV and varsity.  Finished strong and was only bright spot in State Tournament loss to Delcastle.

Co-Impact Player of the Week - Week Ending August 2

Jaquetta May - Delcastle High School

Height:  5' 10"          Current Class:  Senior for '08/'09

Positions Played:  Shooting Guard / Point Guard

Years Varsity: '08/'09 will be 4th.    Years Team Captain:  '08/'09 will be 3rd.

Other Interests:  Singing, Drumming

Biggest Basketball Influence:  Candace Parker

Probable College(s):  St. Joe's, Delaware, New Hampshire

How'd she iPOW?  The Doomsday Machine of the 2008 Summer League.  Was high scorer of the Championship Game against Glasgow with a whopping 25 points in a game played with running clock!  Scored a total of 41 points combining Finals with Semi-Finals (20.5 ppg).  In Title Game, looked like a college player in a high school game.  If she maintains this level of talent, Delcastle will make it to The Bob next March.

June 9, 2008

Impact Player of the Weekend - June 7 & 8

Sabrina Hackendorn - Team Crossover Elite/Lady Warriors 11U

Height:  5' 8"          Current Class:  6th Grade        School: Holy Angels

Potential High School:  St. Elizabeth High School

Positions Played:  Center & Power Forward

Other Interests:  Volleyball, Girl Scouts, Choir at Holy Angels

Biggest Basketball Influence:  Her dad & Elena Delle Donne

How'd she iPOW?  Sabrina is one of those rare, talented tall girls that are so scarce in the First State.  For the positions she plays, there are no holes in her game.  Has phenomenal reach and is master of the putback.  Plays with grit and determination -- the way the game should be played.  "Double-doubled" in the second and third games of the tournament; 14 points / 19 rebounds against the West Chester Sparks and 12 points / 11 boards versus the Mid-Atlantic Magic.  Over the four tournament games, consider these numbers:  34 points, 53 rebounds, 9 blocks, 9 steals and 2 assists.  Big numbers for a 6th grader.  Big numbers for anybody.

Winning Criteria

1.  Only players that appear in games covered by DelawareGirlsBasketball.com are eligible.  This will average about one game per week (in-season), though some weeks will feature 2 (or more) and other weeks none.  DGB.com will make every effort to cover a variety of schools and conferences so that iPOW winners will come from all over.  DGB.com is not associated with any particular school or group of schools.  DGB.com is not a recruiting service, nor does it engage in recruiting activity.

2.  While primarily a high school award, if DGB.com is covering a non-high school girls game (such as CYM, public junior high, AAU, etc.), those players are all eligible for the award.

3.  DGB.com reserves the right to withhold an iPOW Award after games where it is determined that no one earned it.

4.  DGB.com reserves the right to award multiple iPOW awards for a single game.  (...Meaning 2 or more girls can win from one game, although this would be very rare.)

5.  iPOW winners do not necessarily have to be on the winning team.

6.  iPOW winners are not asked to or required to do any service for DGB.com in return.

7.  No other "prize", material or monetary gain is extended from DGB.com to the iPOW winners.

8.  Any player offered the award who requests not to be mentioned on the DGB.com website will have the award revoked.  (In other words, if you don't want your name associated with the award, then you don't want the award very much.)

9.  DGB.com reserves any and all other rights not specifically detailed on this page in connection with this award.

NB:  On May 7, 2008, in phone conversation with Marie Dillon at NCAA Headquarters, it was verbally agreed that the iPOW award is "NCAA-legal" (my quotes, not hers).  The gist of the NCAA's concerns being that the award does not consist of any money changing hands and that the website has no ties to any particular school's booster club or athletic department.  The NCAA also requires that DGB.com not be a recruiting service.  (We are not a recruiting service.)

Other than those ground rules, which DGB.com has been in FULL COMPLIANCE WITH, our iPOW Award is acceptable to the NCAA, according to Ms. Dillon, and will not jeopardize any recipient with possible/potential NCAA sanctions.

Dear Mr. Charles,

This email is to follow-up from the conversation we had last week regarding your website.  Per our conversation, your questions were regarding providing prospective student athletes (PSA) with a t-shirt and picture on a website with the PSA’s qualifications and achievements.    Per our legislation, providing the PSA’s with a t-shirt, a picture and information on your website would be permitted  provided several criteria is met.  The award would need to be  uniform for all athletes, the criteria for winning the award would need to be the same for all athletes,  the award does not include cash,  it is not being provided by a booster of an institution,  and no recruiting is involved.

Sincerely,

Marie Dillon
