Current Class: Rising Senior

How'd she iPOW? Tori Casper became our first Insta Signs
Plus iPOW winner since the State Tournament in March by throwing
down 16 points -- every one of them essential to her team -- as
St. Elizabeth upset St. Mark's in overtime to win the Blue
Division Championship of the High School Summer League.
Tori scored 8 points in each half and that steadiness was
crucial in this nice achievement for the Vikings.

Co-Impact Player of the Week - Week Ending March 13, 2010
Naiesha Brown
- Sanford

Height:
5' 10"
Current Class: Junior
Years on
Varsity: 3
Positions
Played: Shooting Guard / Forward
Other
Interests: Lacrosse & Volleyball
Biggest
Basketball Influence: Lisa Leslie & Kevin Garnett
Probable
College: Boston University or University of South Florida
How’d she iPOW?
Naiesha was almost a one-woman show in the Semi-Finals.
Our game coverage text best explains it: Her 27 points
was almost half of the Warriors’ total output. But Brown
was doing a lot more than putting the ball in the hoop.
She led all players in the game in points (27), field goals made
(8), free-throws made (11), steals (3, tied for first with 2
other players), and rebounds (17). As to her work on the
boards, no one else in the game was even close to Naiesha. The next best individual rebounding total was just 6!

Co-Impact Player of the Week - Week Ending March 13, 2010
Jackie Jenkins
- Smyrna High School

Height:
5' 2"
Current Class: Junior
Years on Varsity: 3
Team Captain: 2 years
Positions
Played: Shooting Guard
Other
Interests: Softball & Cross Country
Biggest
Basketball Influence: Teammate, Betnijah Laney
Probable
College: Delaware State
How’d she iPOW?
Was the key contributor to Smyrna's Semi-Final win (59 - 55)
over Cape Henlopen. From DGB.com game coverage text:
T he
difference maker was guard Jackie Jenkins. While her
physical stature may be diminutive, standing at just 5’ 2”,
she played every minute at a fever pitch and showed more
tenacity than any other player in the game. And in a game
like this, that’s going some! Her four three-pointers tore
away at Cape Henlopen’s early game momentum, but it was her
heroics from the free-throw line with just 13 seconds left
in the game – a 2 for 2 performance – that secured the
scoreboard in favor of Smyrna and dashed any hopes that the
Cape Cinderella Story would carry over to the Title Game.

Gabrielle
Julian - St. John the Beloved

Height:
5' 2 1/2"
Current Class: 6th grade
Positions
Played: Point & Shooting Guard
Other
Interests: Softball & Soccer
Biggest
Basketball Influence: Her mom
Probable
High School: Padua Academy
How’d she iPOW?
Gabby led all scorers in the Title Game of the St. E’s League
with 12 points, the only player on either side with 10 or more.
From the story text on the game: “Coming up huge on the day was
Gab Julian, who scored all 12 of her points in the second half,
including nailing a pair of technical foul free-throws. But,
the game was no walk in the park for Julian, who started off the
game cold. Anyone could see she was not happy with her own
performance in the first half. Still, to her credit, she let
the game come to her. A decision was made to switch Gab to
point guard, and almost from that moment on, the Eagles’
fortunes took a better turn. Her shots started falling, and by
the end of the game, the cold start was a distant memory.” Gab
Julian is the only iPOW winner this winter season below 7th
grade, and only the second-ever sub-7th grader to get
an iPOW during a winter season – the other being then 6th
grader, Caroline Davis, a year ago.
March 1, 2010
Co-Impact Player of the Week - Week Ending March 6, 2010
Sabrina
Hackendorn
- Holy Angels CYM Varsity

Sabrina Hackendorn makes history as our
first-ever two-time iPOW winner!
Height:
5' 8"
Current Class: 8th grade
Years Varsity: 2
Positions
Played: Forward / Center
Other
Interests: Volleyball, Track, Girl Scouts, Church Choir
Biggest
Basketball Influence: Her dad and everyone that she watches in
college games - especially the post players.
Probable
High School: St. Elizabeth
How’d she iPOW?
"There were a lot of deserving girls." Well, that's what
Sabrina Hackendorn said as she made iPOW history by being the
first player to be awarded a second t-shirt. And while her
feelings on the subject have a lot of supporting evidence behind
them, the truth is -- whether Sabrina likes it or not -- Holy
Angels would probably have had a much tougher time winning the
CYM title two years running without her in the lineup.
There are more phenomenally good players on this team than you
can shake a trophy at, but Sabrina is the straw that stirs the
drink. Fifteen points, to lead all scorers in the C
Division Title Game (game played 2-28-10); numerous rebounds;
lots of instances where she broke up St. Mary's plays; great
defense to the hoop (she played bottom middle in the 2-3 zone
defense). DGB.com really had no option -- at least, not
one that would've made any sense -- but to bestow Sabrina with
this recognition.

Winning Criteria
1. Only players that appear
in games covered by DelawareGirlsBasketball.com are eligible.
This will average about one game per week (in-season), though some
weeks will feature 2 (or more) and other weeks none. DGB.com
will make every effort to cover a variety of schools and conferences
so that iPOW winners will come from all over. DGB.com is not
associated with any particular school or group of schools.
DGB.com is not a recruiting service, nor does it engage in
recruiting activity.
2. While primarily a high
school award, if DGB.com is covering a non-high school girls game
(such as CYM, public junior high, AAU, etc.), those players are all
eligible for the award.
3. DGB.com reserves the
right to withhold an iPOW Award after games where it is determined
that no one earned it.
4. DGB.com reserves the
right to award multiple iPOW awards for a single game.
(...Meaning 2 or more girls can win from one game, although this
would be very rare.)
5. iPOW winners do not
necessarily have to be on the winning team.
6. iPOW winners are not
asked to or required to do any service for DGB.com in return.
7. No other "prize",
material or monetary gain is extended from DGB.com to the iPOW
winners.
8. Any player offered the
award who requests not to be mentioned on the DGB.com website will
have the award revoked. (In other words, if you don't want
your name associated with the award, then you don't want the award
very much.)
9. DGB.com reserves any and
all other rights not specifically detailed on this page in
connection with this award.
NB: On May 7, 2008, in phone
conversation with Marie Dillon at NCAA Headquarters, it was verbally
agreed that the iPOW award is "NCAA-legal" (my quotes, not hers).
The gist of the NCAA's concerns being that the award does not
consist of any money changing hands and that the website has no ties
to any particular school's booster club or athletic department.
The NCAA also requires that DGB.com not be a recruiting service.
(We are not a recruiting service.)
Other than those ground rules,
which DGB.com has been in FULL COMPLIANCE WITH, our iPOW Award is
acceptable to the NCAA, according to Ms. Dillon, and will not
jeopardize any recipient with possible/potential NCAA sanctions.
The following is taken verbatim
from an email dated May 14, 2008 from Marie Dillon of the NCAA:
Dear Mr. Charles,
This
email is to follow-up from the conversation we had last week
regarding your website. Per our conversation, your
questions were regarding providing prospective student
athletes (PSA) with a t-shirt and picture on a website with
the PSA’s qualifications and achievements. Per our
legislation, providing the PSA’s with a t-shirt, a picture
and information on your website would be permitted provided
several criteria is met. The award would need to be
uniform for all athletes, the criteria for winning the
award would need to be the same for all athletes, the award
does not include cash, it is not being provided by a
booster of an institution, and no recruiting is involved.
Sincerely,
Marie Dillon
